BACK TO THE ROOTS over ons optreden op Meensel Blues 2006
[Hierna] (...) "kwam de overschakeling naar de zogenaamde Chicago-blues van The Night Time Heroes Blues Band. Deze helden uit Aalst zijn zoals men in Vlaanderen zegt, al tien jaar goed bezig. Opgesteld als een 'tableau vivant' uit Chicago, met frontman Karel Meganck in streepjespak en hoed middenin, lieten zij de retroblues herleven via een mozaïek van akoestische en elektrische Chicago- en Texasblues. Bij hun eerste songs opteerden zij voor de roots-blues van Robert Johnson en Blind Boy Fuller, gevoelvol neergezet door gitarist Peter Bronder. Daarna barstten de elementen los via springerige blues en funky ritmes. Karel Meganck combineert zijn diepdonkere bijwijlen Blunk-achtige zang met pittige mondharmonica-intermezzo's, De staande bas van Jacky Verstraeten verlevendigt dan weer de boogiesound. Maar met trage nummers, zoals het intieme 'Glamour Girl' bewijst de zanger dat hij ook kan zalven. Dit maar om te zeggen dat de 5-koppige band van alle markten thuis is en dat hun naam gerust in neonletters mag worden geafficheerd, Hun manifest 'Blues is Our Religion' komt recht uit het hart en het afsluitende 'Steamy Windows' bleek achteraf nog waar te zijn ook."
